Sorbus species - Rowans and Whitebeams
Sorbus aucuparia - Rowan
There are many species of Whitebeams which are challenging to identify. They can be divided into two aggregate groups
Sorbus intermedia agg.
They have grey-yellowish hairs on the underside of the leaf and the berries are red. They tend to have the deeper and more irregular teeth / lobes.
Sorbus aria agg.
They have white hairs on the underside of the leaf and the berries are black. They tend to have the shallower teeth and are not lobed.
