Sagina procumbens - Procumbent Pearlwort
This has matted perennial, rooting freely, leaves with point < 0.2mm, petals absent or < 1/2 length of glabrous sepals 4(-5)
Sagina nodosa - Knotted Pearlwort
A diffuse perennial with ascending or procumbent stems. Leaves with point < 0.1mm, upper leaves 3x shorter than those at lower nodes, sepals 5, glabrous or glandular hairy with petals 2x as long.
Sagina subulata - Heath Pearlwort
This matted perennial has leaves with point 0.3 - 0.6mm, upper leaves <2x shorter than those at lower nodes, sepals 5, glandular hairy (or glabrous) with petals 1.25x as long.
Sagina filicaulis - Slender Pearlwort
This is a diffusely branched annual. Leaves with points 0.1 - 0.4mm. 4 Sepals often red on margins, at least some are patent in fruit, the outer sub obtuse to obtuse. Petals are 0 or <1mm. Capsules protrude < 10% of their length out of the sepals.
Sagina apetala - Annual Pearlowrt
This is also a diffusely branched annual, all the shoots are flowering. Leaves with points 0.1 - 0.4mm. 4 Sepals white on margins, erect to erect-patent in fruit, the outer subacute or acuminate. Petals are 0 or <1mm. Capsules protrude > 12% of their length out of the sepals.
