Pinus - Pine
Pinus sylvestris - Scots Pine
This is a common tree with a conic crown becoming flat-topped somewhat disjointed crown. The bark is pale grey but becoming smooth orange or even pink in upper trunk. The leaves are blue-green, in pairs, 5-7 cm or shorter in old growth and longer in new growth. The leaves tend to thick and broad and are often twisted.
Pinus nigra ssp. laricio - Corsican Pine
This has a more regular crown. The leaves are paired, slender, lax much twisted and 12-18cm long.
